When it was open, the Art Theater of Champaign was a favorite spot of mine to go with friends. Whether you were looking to watch new movies, old movies or more obscure movies, that was the perfect place to go. The Art Theater built a creative, compassionate, and critical community through the exhibition of great cinema & media arts.
This was an old class project of mine I recently dug up and it brought back memories for me. The objective of the project was to rebrand a company, be it local or elsewhere. I immediately thought of the Art Theater. Back when I was in school, I looked forward to going there with friends. From waiting in line to get into their annual showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show to a live score played for the silent Nosferatu film, I looked forward to sharing the experience with them.
Being an almost one hundred year old theater, immediately chose to research the Art Deco style. Film and movies were new concepts for people of the time right about then. Popular colors to use in the Art Deco style, I chose the colors gold and slate.
